TSIA: Taiwan's Chip Foundry Sector Revenue surges 35% YoY in 3Q24
The Taiwan Semiconductor Industry Association (TSIA) released a survey on November 15 indicating that Taiwan's total IC industry revenue for Q3 2024, encompassing design, manufacturing, packaging, and testing, reached NT$1,384.0 billion (US$44.4 billion), marking a 9.0% quarterly growth and a 24% annual increase. In the foundry sector, where TSMC is a global leader, sales increased 34.7% in Q3, and a 28.9% annual growth is anticipated for the year.
Key sector breakdowns include:
Design: NT$325.6 billion (US$10.4 billion), up 4.2% quarterly and 13.1% annually.
Manufacturing: NT$896.5 billion (US$28.7 billion), with an 11.1% quarterly increase and 32.7% annual growth.
Foundry: NT$850.8 billion (US$27.3 billion), up 11.9% quarterly and 34.7% annually.
Memory & Other Products: NT$45.7 billion (US$1.5 billion), showing a 1.9% quarterly drop but a 3.9% annual increase.
Packaging: NT$111.4 billion (US$3.6 billion), growing 9.0% quarter-over-quarter and 7.6% year-over-year.
Testing: NT$50.5 billion (US$1.6 billion), with a 4.3% quarterly rise and 3.1% annual growth.
2024 Outlook for Taiwan's IC Industry: For the full year 2024, Taiwan’s IC revenue is forecasted to reach NT$5,300.1 billion (US$169.9 billion), reflecting a 22.0% growth from 2023. Breakdown by segment includes:
Design: NT$1,276.9 billion (US$40.9 billion), up 16.5%.
Manufacturing: NT$3,395.7 billion (US$108.8 billion), an anticipated 27.5% increase.
Foundry: NT$3,213.7 billion (US$103.0 billion), growing 28.9%.
Memory & Other Products: NT$182.0 billion (US$5.8 billion), a 7.0% rise.
Packaging: NT$427.0 billion (US$13.7 billion), up 8.6%.
Testing: NT$200.5 billion (US$6.4 billion), increasing by 5.2%.

According to the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS), global semiconductor revenue in Q3 2024 reached US$166.0 billion, marking a 10.7% growth from Q2 2024 and a 23.2% increase compared to Q3 2023. Total units sold hit 253.6 billion ICs, reflecting a 7.7% increase quarter-on-quarter and a 7.0% rise year-over-year. The average selling price (ASP) was US$0.654, up 2.8% from the previous quarter and 15.2% from the same period in 2023.
Regional Highlights:
United States: Revenue reached US$51.7 billion in Q3, a 16.7% quarterly increase and a significant 46.3% annual growth.
Japan: Revenue was US$12.6 billion, up 11.5% quarter-over-quarter and 7.7% year-over-year.
Europe: Revenue reached US$13.3 billion, a 5.9% quarterly increase but an 8.2% annual decrease.
China: Revenue totaled US$48.1 billion, growing 6.3% on the quarter and 22.8% from Q3 2023.
Asia-Pacific (excluding China): Revenue hit US$40.2 billion, reflecting a 10.3% quarterly rise and an 18.4% annual growth.
