TSMC 3nm Process Production Distribution – Current Major Sites:

Taiwan (Core Manufacturing Base)

  • Southern Taiwan Science Park (Tainan): Fab 18A, 18B, and 18C, serving as the first mass-production base for the 3nm process.

  • Baoshan, Hsinchu Science Park: Fab 20 is the next major expansion hub for 3nm, with part of its capacity already in mass production. But some industry insiders speculate that after upgrading the second fab of JASM to 3nm processes, TSMC may use Fab 20 or part of Fab 18 capacities to produce 2nm or even more advanced chips.

Overseas (Capacity Expansion)

  • Phoenix, Arizona, USA: Fab 21 is planned to produce 3nm and more advanced process nodes.

  • Kumamoto Fab 2: is expected to produce 3nm in 2027.

The synergy:

This is a monumental win for Japan’s industrial giants, Toyota, Sony, and the entire robotics sector, getting a domestic collaborative supply of the brains they need to compete in the next generation of smart products. And for the Japanese state, it creates true economic security and fulfills that crisis management mandate.
