Canadian Startup WeavAir to Co-Develop Contactless Monitoring Solutions in Taiwan
Taiwan is seen as Launchpad for AI-Powered Aging Care Innovation
Building on its previous success in developing high-precision sensors with Taiwanese partners to monitor air quality, Canadian startup WeavAir is returning to Taiwan this December with a new mission: to co-develop an AI-powered, contactless health monitoring system that shifts senior care from reactive response to proactive prevention.
With Asia’s elderly population projected to double by 2050, WeaveAir sees Taiwan as the ideal partner to pioneer proactive care solutions. “There is a growing need for better remote monitoring systems to track the health of individuals who may not have medical professionals nearby, especially those with chronic conditions or elevated risks—such as respiratory issues, cardiac events, or fall-related injuries,” CEO Natalia Mykhaylova explained in an interview with TechSoda what inspired her to develop a remote healthcare monitoring platform on the foundation of her air quality monitoring project.
As healthcare systems globally face mounting strain, especially concerning aging populations, forging a path to transform reactive care into proactive wellness becomes an urgent call to action.
Why Taiwan Matters
Taiwan’s leadership in MedTech innovation, sensor design, and digital health infrastructure makes it an ideal launchpad for WeavAir’s regional expansion and long-term impact.
WeavAir, which spun off from an initial IoT system focused on environmental data collection, has validated the healthcare monitoring solution with some partners in Canada and Singapore.
“Right now, we would like to find partners in Taiwan to help us further take this technology to the next stage,” explains Mykhaylova, who holds a PhD in chemical engineering. She explains that WeavAir’s goal of attending the Expo in Taiwan is to forge strategic partnerships with local healthcare providers, smart device manufacturers, and research institutions to co-develop scalable remote health monitoring systems and pilot deployments in long-term care and smart community settings.
WeavAir aims to build joint R&D and manufacturing collaborations in Taiwan to strengthen product performance and reliability, while also accelerating regulatory validation and clinical trials through partnerships with leading hospitals and integrating with Taiwan’s digital health infrastructure for real-world pilots in eldercare and smart community settings. In parallel, the company plans to develop joint commercialization pathways across Asia, positioning Taiwan as a regional hub to coordinate APAC market expansion, regulatory compliance, and logistics. By leveraging Taiwan’s ICT supply chain, Mykhaylova said WeavAir aims to scale production 5 times via local OEM and ODM collaborations.
The New Frontier in Preventive Health
WeavAir’s core technology offers a revolutionary approach to continuous health assessment. It uses AI-powered, contactless monitoring to detect early signs of respiratory, cardiac, and mobility issues from 3–10 meters away.
The key differentiation factors? The solution requires no wearables or intrusive devices. Instead, it uses a network of sensors, including ultrasonic and radar sensors, combined with proprietary software to detect subtle patterns in a person’s specific location, movement, heart rate, and respiratory rate, etc. This method offers a seamless, non-invasive experience, promoting continuous use, which is a common challenge for wearable products.
Early Detection: The system can detect 20 indicators and risk factors, including cardiac failure risks, risk of falls, respiratory and cardiac anomalies, and unhealthy activity or behavior patterns, with 95-98% accuracy depending on the indicator, and can even advise individuals and their families to stay healthy and protect loved ones.
Wider Impact: By enabling continuous, real-time monitoring in homes and care facilities, WeavAir’s solution aims to reduce hospital visits by up to 30%, lower care costs by 25%, and improve early intervention outcomes by 40%.
Security Focus: Recognizing the critical nature of health data, the system is designed to be secure. The company is also developing edge compute systems with partners to reduce reliance on cloud linkages and allow for local data storage, addressing strict data residency laws globally.
A Call for Collaboration
WeavAir is currently raising US$4 million to support product scaling, regulatory validation, and deployment at senior care facilities. Mykhaylova also plans to apply for a Taiwan Employment Gold Card to stay for extended collaboration and localize the product experience for Taiwan’s elderly care environments.
“Our goal is to build solutions that help people stay healthier, longer—and to do it in a way that is accessible and dignified,” she said. “By working closely with partners in Taiwan, we can make proactive health monitoring the new standard for aging care across Asia.”
WeavAir forecasts the total addressable market of the aging care services and products at US$50 billion, including US$20 billion for caretakers, US$20 billion for diagnostic treatment providers, and US$10 billion for insurers and research companies. Together with Taiwan’s innovation ecosystem, WeavAir aims to redefine what aging gracefully and healthily looks like for millions across Asia.
